When I decided to create my own online business, I was super terrified….
I was scared that I’d fail, I was scared that I’d get attacked online, I was scared that I was being irresponsible following a wild dream.
And while I tell my VITA Coaching members all the time that building your own business is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do: spiritually, emotionally, physically, energetically….
It literally takes everything you’ve got…and then some…
There also isn’t anything that you’ll be proud of the day you die that isn’t incredibly challenging at times, like:
- Parenting
- Long Term Romantic Relationships
- Health & Fitness
- Spiritual Growth
- Love and Friendship
Sooooooo…yes, business is crazy hard at times, but it’s also one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in my whole life.
I wanted to make this specific video about the things I love about having my own business…
But as I watched it after filming, I realized it’s also a video about what women do when they chart their own destiny.
It’s easier to do, I feel, if you run your own business, but you can chart your own destiny no matter what your life situation is.
It’s not something that I was raised to understand: I understood that a woman tied herself to a man and he largely charted the financial, sexual, romantic, and lifestyle destiny for both of them.
If she had a destiny, it was to raise the kids and make the food.
And I respect a woman who charts her own destiny and chooses to raise kids and make food: there is so much beauty and honor in that.
But what I can’t stand for is women being handed their lives, instead of being empowered to choose them.
Recently, I’ve really been contemplating that the last 10 years have been the first time in recorded history where women can easily and accessibly become entrepreneurs and truly financially empowered.
Or, if they don’t choose that route, that they get to claim whatever path speaks to them.
In my life, I see that this gives me access to living life on my own terms.
Even simple things like throwing parties for my community.
I create a super safe space for women to get wild, expressive, and to thrive.
And in turn, I believe that when women have that space, men get uplifted and truly empowered as well.
I can’t tell you how many times in LA I’ve gone to some dude’s mansion and all the other dudes say he’s a great guy, then I meet him and he says something sexualizing, misogynistic or patronizing towards me.
I realize that building my own business and charting my own destiny has allowed me to create spaces where I like to play.
I don’t have to exist in spaces created by and for men where I’m something to play with.
I’m the player. You’re the player. She’s the player.
We all get to play and no one is there to be played.
That shift is huge.
So, I’m currently exploring what women create when they’ve done enough work on themselves that they aren’t unconsciously perpetuating patriarchy (‘cause there’s a lot of that too)…
And they have enough freedom to design life on their terms…
And the spaces they create…
And how they can uplift this reality we’ve inherited…
For me, I am so grateful for this business I’ve made (of which you are such an important part, thank you thank you thank you thank you)…
Because it’s allowed me to explore life on my own terms.
I wish that for every woman.
And every man.
And every human everywhere.
Truly.
