Why do humans like to f*ck things up right when they’re getting really really good??

For me, my childhood experiences led me to believe that goodness and beauty and fun would be taken away from me.

So I developed a deep fear of good things being ripped out of my hands…

And I developed behavior patterns that kept me safe within these fears, but they led me to mess things up before they could get too amazing.

This phenomenon is called self-sabotage.

And self-sabotage can look like:

  • Starting an unnecessary fight
  • Procrastinating instead of letting yourself succeed
  • Binging on junk food when you’re trying to improve your health
  • Abusing substances when you know you’ll regret it

There are so many ways we self-sabotage, and they’re all ways that we confirm negative self-beliefs and avoid fear.

If you believe that you’re not worthy of success or the relationship of your dreams, or if you’re so afraid of giving something your all and still not succeeding…

These beliefs and fears are going to dictate your actions and ensure that you stay safe and comfortable within these realms…

Even if these realms are negative…

Because our brains like to act in alignment with our beliefs and keep us safe by not facing fear.

Self-sabotage ultimately comes from:

  • Fear of failure
  • Lack of self-confidence
  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of self-worth
  • Fear of success

So you have to address these fears and negative self-beliefs if you want to stop your self-sabotaging behavior.
